Hunting of the Ktunaxa
The people of the Plateau use bow and arrows, spears, and knives for hunting animals. They used nets in order to trap waterfowl, a type of bird. "Deadfall" traps were used to capture larger game such as deer. They were made by digging a pit, and cover the pit with twigs and leaves. Once a deer were to fall in the pit by running on top of the pit, the deer will not be able to get out of the pit.
Weirs or nets were used to block the path of fish in shallow water Screened nets were put right at the top of a waterfall, so that salmon that were seeking to jump over the waterfall will be trapped in the net. Another kind of net, dips nets, allowed the fisherman to stand near the water, say on a ledge, and literally bring out fish by scooping them out of the water. The only weapon they were spears. Spears were used to stab the fish and bring them out of the water as they were swimming up the stream.
