Transportation of the Ktunaxa.
Most of the times, the people of the Plateau usually traveled by walking. The Fraser and the Thompson River are the main waterways in the area of the Plateau. The two rivers were swift and they both had many rapids. Also, they both lead to waterfalls. This made it hard to navigate through the rivers. One of the tribes, the Nlaka'pamux ( Formerly known as the Thompson First Nations ) made three types of canoes. The three canoes were the birch bark, cedar dugout, and skin covered wooden frame canoe.
To the people of the Plateau, travel was not required if food was not an issue. Another tribe, the Carrier lived on salmon stored in the winter. They did not have to hunt in the winter. However, the other tribes do not do what the Carrier does. Therefore, they have to hunt in winter using toboggans. Some of the toboggans were made of moose leg skins. Sometimes, dogs were used to pack heavy loads.
